Laila Biali & Arch Contemporary Ballet - 01/22/17

Every January, artists, activists, civic leaders, and community members come together in the BAM Howard
Gilman Opera House to honor the legacy and share the dream of Dr. Martin Luther King. The largest event
of its kind in New York City, this celebration is presented in partnership with the Brooklyn Borough
President and Medgar Evers College, and has been a BAM tradition since 1990.

The Harkness Foundation has committed significant multi-year funding totaling $1 million each to five partner
organizations of major importance to the dance field: The Brooklyn Academy of Music, The Joyce Theater,
New York City Center, The 92nd Street Y/Harkness Dance Center and NYU Langone Medical Center /
 Hospital for Joint Diseases, home of the Harkness Center for Dance Injuries.

Award-winning Canadian pianist and vocalist, Laila Biali-Wittman, has been garnering world-wide
recognition for her music which she has performed at prestigious venues including the North Sea Jazz Festival,
Tokyo’s Cotton Club, and Carnegie Hall. She has toured with GRAMMY award winners Chris Botti,
Paula Cole and Suzanne Vega, and recorded with and supported international icon, Sting.

Arch Contemporary Ballet Artistic Director and choreographer, Sheena Annalise, began choreographing at
age 14 under the direction of Kellye Dodd, Cristina McClelland, and Gary Masters. At the early age of 15
she was honored to work with Wayne McGregor | Random Dance in “ Equator Project”.

Arch Contemporary Ballet was founded to create an artistic process that enhances the connection between
ballet and music. All of ACB’s works are choreographed and completed in silence. Commissioned artists
then create original music scores specifically for each repertoire program.

Nicholas: So you are an outsider at the outsider art fair? Ross: Yes. Everyone inside is an insider. They
all know one another. It's all about the money. Nicholas: Interesting. So who are some of your
favorite musicians? Ross: Iggy Pop.

Fountain House Gallery( a nonprofit exhibition space ) is the premier venue in New York City representing
artists with mental illness. Fountain House Gallery provides an environment for artists living and working
with mental illness to pursue their creative visions and to challenge the stigma that surrounds mental illness.
